About us

Four decades of leather, lacquer and second opinions.

We are a family run business which has evolved over generations into a full service custom workshop offering the highest personalisation in the Mauritian automobile industry.

Our humble beginnings in leather manufacturing continue to this day through our affinity for the highest quality materials and skilled labour. This constant pursuit of perfection has allowed us to push the barriers of what is possible, and played a crucial role in allowing us to forge long-lasting partnerships with key showrooms across Mauritius.

Through those partnerships we allow automobile manufacturers to offer their clientele non-stock options not traditionally available for new vehicles coming straight off the production line.

What we hold to

Three words we actually use.

Details are what separates the best from the rest. These are not posters on a wall. They are the reasons jobs get sent back and redone.

01

Uniqueness

A major pillar of the group. It expresses the company's belief that each individual is different, and its commitment towards providing each customer with a personalised product and service suited to their needs.

02

Perfection

Our brand is anchored in quality, authenticity and in our commitment to creating a memorable customer experience. There is never a job too small. Our team are constantly striving towards achieving perfection in the most intricate areas, as we understand that “details” are what separates the best from the rest.

03

Inquisitive

This expresses the company's commitment towards gaining more knowledge. We only use the finest products and are relentlessly experimenting and developing the optimum combinations, methodologies and techniques towards achieving a flawless finish.

Our journey

From leather gloves to Taycans.

The company has changed names three times and industries twice. The one thing that never moved was the material standard.

1980sThe Beginning

Our journey into automotive customisation and craftsmanship began in the 1980s when Henri Leong Son started Compil Ltd, a family owned company specialising in leather works. Bringing with him his experience working at Bata Ltd for over 15 years, Henri Leong Son decided to focus on the fabrication of leather gloves. Compil Ltd employed over 100 people meticulously assembling and moulding leather gloves which were then exported to France. Using industry experience gathered over the best part of two decades, the company thrived in the developing economy of Mauritius.

1985Expansion

Five years after its inception, the company decided to expand its range of services to start producing quality leather footwear for 5★ hotels across Mauritius. Compil Ltd managed to secure contracts from famous hotels such as The St Regis, Maritim, Hilton and many more. The company always focused on quality and craftsmanship behind their product offerings as they believed it was the one thing that differentiated them from their competitors. The company earned various awards from LIRI (Leather Industrial Research Institute) and was eventually manufacturing leather footwear for the Mauritian Police force.

1999Transition

Following his passion for the automotive industry, Laval Leong Son decided to build upon his father Henri's entrepreneurial experience and started Speedline Auto Ltd in 1999. The start wasn't easy and required a lot of work transitioning to a new industry.

2000sTesting Grounds

Speedline Auto Ltd initially started experimenting with a variety of offerings such as importation of bodykits and automotive accessories. The company started building relationships with automotive dealerships across the island and slowly implementing itself as a major supplier of automotive services across Mauritius.

2000sLuxury Leather

As the luxury automotive industry grew rapidly in the early 2000s, the company focused its efforts towards its core aptitudes: leather upholstery. The growth of the business reached new heights when it secured an Italian luxury leather upholstery plant as a prominent supplier. Under a new name, Signature Cars Ltd, the company focused all its efforts to become the best leather upholstery supplier across Mauritius.

Signature Cars Ltd

The company's vision for the future of the automotive industry became crystal clear when it managed to secure Leal & Co. Ltd, official representative of BMW Mauritius, as a major client. Allowing them to improve their supply chain and lower their costs while providing high-end custom leather upholstery to their clients, a key area in their business development at the time. Signature Cars Ltd continues to develop their automotive related services to this day.

2019Business Development

Following up on the company's heritage of craftsmanship, Signature Cars Ltd subsidiary company, Details. by Signature saw the day under Warren Leong Son. Details was created out of true passion for automotive customisation. We believed in enabling people to express themselves through their cars. Details. is able to achieve this by providing car enthusiasts in Mauritius a higher level of customisation than was ever previously available on the market.

TodayDetails. by Signature

Details' mission was simple: “Making the best, better.” Attending trainings and seminars across the world (America, Singapore, UK, Dubai, Germany and many more), Details aims to push the boundaries of what the Mauritian market has previously seen before. Building upon its relationship with the best automotive dealerships of Mauritius, Details got the opportunity to work with the most expensive cars that have ever touched Mauritian soil.

NextWork in Progress

With Details. by Signature still in its infancy, our company is highly customer centric. We strive to let your personality shine through in the way you express yourself through your car. We work hard to keep close relationships with our clients who continue to trust us with their vehicles in order to bring them something truly exceptional.

Who made what on this site.

Most of what you see here is ours. Where it is not, this is whose it is.

Photography

Every photograph of a car on this site was shot by or for the workshop and published on details.mu or our own social accounts. The seats, the hides, the cars: ours. The one exception is the set of reference photographs listed below, which illustrate what a technique looks like and are marked as such wherever they appear.

The gallery

Film

Our own films come from our channel. The screening room does not: those are other people’s films of other people’s cars, playing from their own uploads.

The loop behind the home page is White Porsche GT3 RS– Ambient Drive – 4K Ultra HD Live Wallpaper (2hrs) by Mr. Majestic. It is not a Details car.

The screening room: Hayman Media, Ricky Blackwell, F1RST MOTORS, C&C PremiumCars, ISSIMI Official, Neomotive, Owen Garceau Films, Erick Bahena, Gravity Show, Fastrmedia.

The 3D car

The car you can turn and specify throughout this site is a licensed model, not a photograph and not a render we bought in. Its licence asks for credit, so here it is.

3D model Porsche GT3 RS by Black Snow, licensed under CC BY 4.0.

Reference photographs

Some of the technique cards carry a photograph so you can see what a term means, because nobody should have to already know what piping is to read a page about it. Those are other people’s photographs of other people’s cars. They are marked “Reference” wherever they appear, they are not our work, and every one of them is public domain or carries a licence that asks only for the credit below. Each one is there to show a technique rather than a product, so a photographer’s own title may name something other than the card it illustrates.

Still a work in progress.

With Details. by Signature still in its infancy, we stay highly customer centric: we work hard to keep close relationships with the clients who trust us with their vehicles. Come and see the workshop at 14, Brabant Street.
